New Build's Up - Expanded Combo Trees !!!


Howdy Gamers,

After about of month of work, I finally got around to updating the demo build. While much of the content of the demo levels are roughly the same, some pretty big changes to player combat actions have been introduced:

New Moves:

  • Block (Left Trigger/F Key while grounded)
  • Parry (Sword while blocking)
  • Dash Attack (Sword + Forward, typically from a run)
  • Overhead Grounded Combo (Sword+Up -> Sword -> Sword from standing)
  • Low Grounded Combo (Sword+Down -> Sword from standing) into Polespin (Kick)
  • Downstab (Sword -> Sword+Down from standing), into Polespin (Kick)
  • Lowspin (Sword -> Sword -> Sword+Down from standing)
  • Vaulting Stab (Sword -> Sword -> Sword+Forward+Up from standing)
  • Soaring Typhoon (Sword -> Sword -> Sword+Up while airborne)
  • Falling Stab (Sword -> Sword -> Sword+Down while airborne)
  • Dark Eruption (Sword -> Sword+Kick+Down while standing, costs energy)

General Changes:

Previously most aerial attacks would complete stop Warp Soldier's momentum. Now, the player will keep his momentum when starting an air combo, and landing a hit will cause the player to bounce upward, with some exceptions. This is probably the biggest change to the general feel of combat - lmk what ya'll think.

Also - previously some aerial attacks would be locked-out of use after an initial airborne usage until the player landed on a solid surface. This was done to prevent the player from spamming a single attack over and over again and never touching the ground. Now that most aerial moves obey gravity, this attack-lockout feature has been removed.

Misc Notes:

  • pressing kick while the sword is embedded into the ground will usually put you into Polespin. This attack costs energy but also has iframes.
  • holding up at the end of polespin will launch you into the air a little bit.
  • you can warpcharge the parry by holding the warpcharge button and pressing the sword button during a block. If the parry hits, the attacker will be tagged.

And that should just about cover everything. As per usual, lmk if the build is busted or being dumb so I can fix it. And of course, let me know what ya'll like/dislike/feel neutral about. Now that I'm pretty content with the current number of moves, the next demo update will experiment with more aggressive enemy types. When that'll be ready - could be a week or two, could be a month. When it happens, I'll keep ya'll posted.
